Dental health is very important, and should be regularly maintained. Everyone should be attending regular dental check ups. When families begin to grow, parents ask themselves “at what age should my child go to the dentist”? The answer to this is that the optimal age your child should go to the dentist is after their first birthday. This is the ideal age that your child should go to the dentist, but it is usually fine to wait until their 2nd or 3rd birthday. [Read more…]

– Find a dentist that suits you, and is understanding. Get your know your dentist.
– Share your fear of going to the dentist to the dentist so that he/she knows, and will do their best to accommodate your needs. For example, the dentist and yourself can come up with a hand signal that will allow the dentist to know that you want them to stop in order to give yourself a break. Lack of Dental Care Plan in Canada’s Health Care System
Maintaining good oral health is essential to our overall health. Unfortunately, many of us avoid going to the dentist due to high costs. Hospital and physician care are covered by the health care system in Canada, but dentistry is not. Individuals wishing to attend a dentist must pay out of their pocket, or have a private dental care plan.
This is a problem in our health care system as many dental problems can lead to higher problems such as diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. Canadians that have insecure jobs or receive low wages avoid the dentist due to the cost. These Canadians are also usually the ones with malnourished diets, and therefore those who need dental care the most. This creates a problem as those who need dental care the most, are the ones that receive it the least. [Read more…]
Wisdom Teeth
Have an ache in the back of your mouth that you simply cannot bear anymore? There are many reasons that could account for this, but a very common reason is that your wisdom teeth are making their way into your mouth. The reason that you are experiencing discomfort is due to the growth of wisdom teeth as they are erupting through your gums.
Wisdom teeth come in different cases for everyone. Here at Florence Dentistry, we have a Panorex X-ray machine. This machine takes an X-ray of the entire mouth in one single image (captures your teeth, jaw, and surrounding tissues). Therefore with this X-ray, your wisdom teeth show up, and the dentist can precisely see how they are coming in.
Ottawa Zoom Whitening
Are you looking for a new look? Try in-office Zoom Whitening for your teeth. This is a procedure that is done at Florence Dentistry.
Discoloration in tooth enamel can easily occur due to drinking coffee, tea, soda, red wine, smoking, and even due to aging. Zoom whitening is a process that lightens the enamel on your teeth which results in a white and shiny smile. The process is quick, easy, and effective. The process takes 45 minutes and leaves you with teeth that can be up to eight shades lighter than before.
Zoom whitening starts off with a preparation that includes covering the lips and gums. The teeth are left exposed, and ready to be whitened. The dentist will then apply the Zoom whitening Gel and will shine a Zoom light on the teeth. This allows for the discoloration stains on your teeth to be broken up. The light stays on for fifteen minutes, and after these fifteen minutes the gel is taken off and a new one is re-applied. The gel is applied a total of three times for fifteen minutes, resulting in an overall 45-minute process. [Read more…]
Ottawa Dental Cavity Info
We all know sugar isn’t good for you teeth, but the question is, why is this so? Sugar is associated with tooth decay. This means that the bacteria on teeth that create plaque get their energy from sugar. Therefore the more sugar we intake, the more energy bacteria have to turn into plaque! Some bacteria even then use sugar to as glue, and therefore the bacteria sticks to your teeth. Saliva helps to wash away the bacteria from your teeth, but due to it being glued to your teeth it doesn’t come off as easily.
So why is the formation of plaque bad? This is because our teeth are covered in enamel. Enamel is what protects our teeth and keeps them strong. When plaque is formed on teeth it creates acid, and this acid is what breaks down the enamel on our teeth. This leaves us with less and less enamel, which eventually leads to holes or cavities in our teeth. The holes can get bigger, resulting in big cavities.
