With every decade that we have a tendency to age, our teeth will rise from 1 to 2 shades darker by contacting Ottawa dentist experts. The color pigments within teeth become extra outstanding because the dentin structure below the enamel grows. So you should take into account the enamel to be like semi transparent glass, with the dentin structure shining through beneath. Genetic science plays an oversized role within the darkening of our teeth extrinsically and as such, however environmental factors, oral hygiene, and nutrition additionally contribute to the white shade of our teeth.

There are two categories of tooth staining:

  • Extrinsic (external) staining – Its common causes are smoking, serious consumption of tea/coffee/red wine and poor oral hygiene.
  • Intrinsic (internal) staining – which may result from trauma (such as a fall), excessive halide exposure, or medication.

Below are the top ways by which you can get perfect white teeth:

The solution used in tooth whitening pens does not stay directly in contact with your teeth long enough. As before breakdown, it has no major tooth whitening effects. Tooth whitening pens should be used to maintain your super white teeth. You can be whitened them easily by brushing teeth, visiting dentist Ottawa, using gel kits and/or crest white strips.

You can use Crest White strips

Some Restorative Materials for Pediatric Dentistry

As we know nowadays Dentistry is a field that is constantly evolving. We are exposed to new products therapies and techniques. This blog will be a brief overview of some of the products and therapies that we are generally exposed to and asked by patients and other practitioners for pediatric dentistry. So the new imaging devices, restorative therapies, and vast application of the Internet and other powerful electronic devices are some of the examples of advances that have made a major impact on dentistry. There are several restorative materials available in current scenario; many appropriate materials can be used to restore carious lesions in the primary therapies. There are a large number of techniques and products available in the market, and the inevitable experimentation that dentists undertake, the mixing and matching of materials is common place. When replacing any lost dental tissue, regardless of the procedure favored, it’s necessary for clinicians to know precisely the nature of the system mistreatment and to remember that all systems are operator and technique sensitive.

Below are some restorative materials that offer the clinician several choices in determining the right material for each individual depending on their situation:

Glass Ionomers:

One of the foremost vital advances in pediatric specialty practice has been the development of GICs. A glass ionomer consists of a basic glass associate degreed an acidic water-soluble powder that sets by acid–base reaction between the 2 parts. A principal advantage of GIC is that it’ll adhere to dental hard tissues. A variety of GICs is available in the market today, each having its advantages and disadvantages.

Amalgam:

Historically, due to the simplicity of its use amalgam is the most liked restorative material for Ottawa dentists. Amalgam possesses wonderful physical properties and its use in primary molars has resulted in long-run restorations. However, there are several disadvantages to the employment of amalgam. The most important problem related to its use is that the recent public opinion regarding its safety. In several countries, the employment of amalgam in children’s teeth has been restricted. The explanation for these restrictions is predicated on environmental considerations rather than considerations over amalgam toxicity.

Composite resins:

Resin-based composites (along with photopolymerization) have revolutionized clinical medicine, though issues associated with wear resistance, water absorption, and polymerization contraction will limit their use in larger restorations within the posterior permanent dentition. Within the teeth, composite resins are more employed in combination with GICs in an exceedingly ‘sandwich’-style aesthetic restoration. Placement of those materials is very technique sensitive, and patient compliance and adequate wet isolation will prove difficulties in the younger, more challenging in kid patient.

composit resins

Conventional GICs:

Conventional GICs or chemical-set glass ionomers have weakest mechanical properties. Their setting reaction is completed much quicker, but it continues to ‘mature’ over the several months. It’s necessary to safeguard these materials from secretion and contamination within few hours after the placement or the material might shrink, crack and even debond.

Compomers (polyacid-modified composite resin):

Polyacid-modified organic compound composite resins or compomers square measure materials that contain a calcium metal fluorosilicate glass filler and polyacid elements. They contain either or each essential element of a GIC. However, they’re not water-based and therefore no acid–base reaction will occur. As such, they can’t strictly be described as glass ionomers. They set by organic compound photopolymerization.

Stainless steel crowns:

Stainless steel crowns are basically the preformed extra-coronal restorations that are especially useful in the restoration of:

  • Grossly broken down teeth.
  • Primary molars that have undergone pulp therapy.
  • Hypoplastic primary or permanent teeth.

steel crown

Various new developments are seen in Ottawa Dental Service for kids in recent years. One must develop a clear understanding of the distinctive options, strengths, weaknesses, and needs of every material available to be ready to apply right state of affairs. Continued development of the present materials will build them a lot of easy with improved properties. Development in new directions can likely add materials to the choice portfolio within the years ahead.

What toothpaste should you use?

March 26, 2015 by Florence Dentistry

People at the gym

Toothpaste –Which is the right one for you, and how do you decide?

When there are hundreds of toothpaste brands and types as you walk down the oral health care isle in your local pharmacy, how do you know what to choose? I will discuss the types of toothpastes available, and tips on how to pick the right one.

Back to the basics: What is in my toothpaste?

–          Abrasive agents: used to gently remove plaque biofilm effectively, as well as light stain

–          Flavouring: artificial sweeteners are often used to ‘flavour’ the toothpaste, leaving a refreshing taste in your mouth, enticing you to continue brushing on a regular (2x/day) basis

–          Humectants: this ingredient is often added to prevent the toothpaste from drying out

–          Detergents: that foaminess that comes from your toothpaste comes from a detergent that is added [Read more…]

Brigther teeth

February 9, 2015 by Florence Dentistry

Want brighter teeth? What are your options…

Brigther Teeth

Teeth naturally darken with age – as a result of consuming staining food or drink, tobacco, or in cases where teeth have had root canals (and the tooth is now dead). Though teeth are not naturally bright white, rather a light grey/yellow shade, everyone wants a ‘Hollywood’ smile – it is attainable, but how?

Surface whiteners are usually in form of toothpastes with the addition of special abrasives to improve the products ability to remove stain. Cons: The effectiveness of these products is minimal, so if you have severe staining, you should choose one of the following options. [Read more…]

Fluoride

February 8, 2015 by Florence Dentistry

LET’S BREAK THE CONTROVERSY ON FLUORIDE

fluoride- ottawa dentistry

What is fluoride? Fluoride is a naturally occurring element – it is found in soil and rocks, as well as in fresh and sea water.

What does fluoride do for your teeth? De-mineralization of your tooth enamel is inevitable every day due to the acids that erode your teeth, even with proper brushing and flossing. What fluoride helps to do is to reverse the effects of the de-mineralization process, reducing the risk for cavities and sensitivity.

A little bit of history about how ‘fluoride’ in dentistry came about… In the early 20th century a dentist came across something that was quite odd – some of his patients with heavily stained brown teeth were particularly resistant to tooth decay. He came to the realization after careful research that these teeth were stained as a result of fluorosis (excessive exposure to fluoride). The obvious solution to diminishing the amount of tooth decay in patients was to fluoridate local drinking water. [Read more…]

Toothbrush

January 30, 2015 by Florence Dentistry

How do you brush your teeth? A guide on manual and electronic toothbrushes!

electrical vs manual

Electric toothbrushes have become more and more popular since the 1990’s, but the real question is… are they better than manual toothbrushes? From a dental professional point of view, there are several pros and cons to both techniques, which I will discuss further.

Manual Toothbrushes

  • Pros: – there are multiple toothbrush styles, so patients can choose the one that they enjoy best (though I would always suggest a soft or extra soft toothbrush… to be explained later) – easy to travel with… no need for batteries or chargers – very inexpensive
  • Cons: – you MUST use the proper brushing technique that your dental professional has instructed you to use (which can be difficult and time consuming) – if you use the WRONG technique and the WRONG toothbrush, you can cause detrimental damage to your teeth and gingiva (gums) including gingival recession and abfractions (loss of enamel)

Electric Toothbrushes

  • Pros: – Easy to use… all you have to do is hold the toothbrush head at a 45 degree angle and rest it on the teeth, and the job is done, plain and simple – It takes less time and less work to do a BETTER job, in removing plaque and debris from your teeth – Most electric toothbrushes have timers and technique indicators, giving you less to worry about as you brush your teeth… also easier for children to gage how long they should be brushing – Because it is electric, patients feel they’re teeth are CLEANER than if they did it with a manual toothbrush
  • Cons: – you must ensure your toothbrush is always charged… if the battery is not charged, HOW WILL YOU BRUSH YOUR TEETH????? – COST… electric toothbrushes cost significantly more than manual toothbrushes – they can be easily broken, so you need

At the end of the day, the type of toothbrush you use is up to you… you simply need to acquire the knowledge required to brush appropriately for your unique dental situation – this information can be attained by your dentist at Florence Dentistry.

Ottawa Zoom Whitening

Ottawa Zoom Whitening

Are you looking for a new look? Try in-office Zoom Whitening for your teeth. This is a procedure that is done at Florence Dentistry.

Discoloration in tooth enamel can easily occur due to drinking coffee, tea, soda, red wine, smoking, and even due to aging. Zoom whitening is a process that lightens the enamel on your teeth which results in a white and shiny smile. The process is quick, easy, and effective. The process takes 45 minutes and leaves you with teeth that can be up to eight shades lighter than before.

Zoom whitening starts off with a preparation that includes covering the lips and gums. The teeth are left exposed, and ready to be whitened. The dentist will then apply the Zoom whitening Gel and will shine a Zoom light on the teeth. This allows for the discoloration stains on your teeth to be broken up. The light stays on for fifteen minutes, and after these fifteen minutes the gel is taken off and a new one is re-applied. The gel is applied a total of three times for fifteen minutes, resulting in an overall 45-minute process. [Read more…]

Updated Review Monday January 15, 2018 ******************************************** Yesterday I had yet another visit to Dr. Lysik and this was another absolutely amazing experience! I had a root canal and of course I was wide awake during the procedure! I've gone through much of my life as avoiding dentists because of a very unpleasant experience as a very young child! I would water until a simple cavity became an extraction! Then, I would go to an oral surgeon and be put to sleep! Then, a couple of years ago I came to know Dr. Lysik and long story short, I became her patient! She is caring, sensitive and makes one feel most comfortable! I put my trust in her and without disappointment! In conclusion, I highly recommend her to anyone and especially to those whom have a dead of dentists! ????????read more

Prior to going to Florence Dentistry I hadn't seen a dentist in 10 years, and only ended up pulling the trigger on in once a tooth was causing me daily pain. I was very nervous about the whole experience, but they were all extremely warm, welcoming and professional. After the first teeth cleaning session the pain was gone, and after a few more visits Dr. Pershad my cavities were filled as well. It's a tremendous relief not worrying about the health of my teeth anymore. I couldn't recommend their services more highly.read more

been here today for the first time after *YEARS* without seeing a dentist (Shame on me!). I was here for a cleaning. I have to say I am a VERY anxious person and I really do not feel comfortable when I go to the dentist's; however, my experience here was AMAZING. My dentist's name was Celia (if I spelled it correctly) and she was very delicate, understanding, and she put me at ease from the beginning. I actually am looking forward to the second part of my cleaning next week. Also the lady at the front desk was super friendly. I really recommend this place!read more
